Doctorate
The Doctorate in Education course has been offered since 2019 with the aim of training Doctors in Education. It is open to professionals who already hold a Master's degree from a program recognized by CAPES.
The program is designed for professionals from various fields, including those in education with backgrounds in teaching, educational management, and guidance, as well as professionals in related areas such as Educational Psychology, Psychology, Applied Social Sciences, Health, Literature, and Linguistics, among others. This interdisciplinary approach is made possible by the doctoral program's curriculum, which fosters broad investigative opportunities through dialogue between Education and other fields of knowledge.
To earn a EdD. in Education, candidates must engage in coursework (both mandatory and elective), participate in research groups and academic events, receive guidance from advisors, and contribute to scientific production, among other activities. Students must produce a dissertation to be defended within a maximum period of 48 months. The minimum completion time is 36 months, and the maximum is 54 months. In cases where an extension of six months is needed, a formal request must be submitted by the doctoral candidate and evaluated by the program's Academic Committee.
The academic experience in the Program aims to provide PhDs in Education with excellent training in research and qualified training of human resources capable of working in the field of Education, both in the formal and non-formal spheres.
Upon completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
Address educational challenges by deepening their studies and conducting research that advances educational knowledge and practice;
- Generate knowledge with an impact on the scientific community in the field of Education and on the educational system at all levels and modalities;
- Propose solutions to overcome local, regional, and national educational challenges;
- Critically analyze theoretical and practical approaches to education and its relationship with social, political, economic, and cultural contexts, considering both local and global perspectives;
- Engage in comparative dialogues on educational realities in Brazil and abroad;
- Conduct research and reflections that support the training of researchers and educators for higher education.
